Gehry Loggia in downtown Culver City

Gehry Loggia BuildingIn Culver City, at 3939 Landmark Street, you will find the Gehry Loggia Building.

A member an internationally known architect and designer whose work has received multiple awards and prices (Pritzker Prize 1989). Christopher Ward, a Los Angeles based architect and artist who has won numerous awards, also works as an architect.

There was once a concrete tilt-up warehouse in the Loggia. The concrete facade of the warehouse was covered in wood, and it was separated from the outer glass wall by a loggia. Designing this structure helped soften its sharp edges. Glass trees with green foliage appear to float on the outer walls.

Loggia appears to glow internally in the evenings when the lights are on. The Culver City Park Century School renovated this 47,000 square foot warehouse.

A 1968 founding school, Park Century School serves children ages 7 to 14. Most students exhibit language-based learning issues, most commonly dyslexia, along with ADHD. With 48 classrooms, six small groups and 12 individual tutoring rooms, the school caters to the diverse schedules of its students.

Its layout was simple with no curves or angles, reduced hallway noise so it would not disrupt the classes, and a parent lounge area away from the school's main thoroughfare.

Is it possible to find the mural's reflection across the street?

The downtown Culver City neighborhood is filled with unusual art displays on the walking tour. Culver City is rich with motion picture history, and these unique works of art reflect that.

Visit City Hall, Town Plaza, the Police Station and two movie studios to view the public art in Downtown Culver City. It takes approximately an hour and a half just to follow the sequenced numbers on the map. The Downtown Culver City Public Art Walking Tour Map is available for printing.

As of 1988, Culver City has a Public Art Program. To stimulate Culver City's artistic and economic growth, the program was designed. Public art requirements apply to all residential and commercial construction projects exceeding $500000 (or rehab projects exceeding $250000) in Culver City. Culver City has almost 80 pieces of public art, with about half on city-owned properties and half on private properties. An example of a recent art installation from this program is the 94-foot-tall rainbow created by Sony Pictures.
